On behalf of our client in Montreal, Progression3 is in search of an Enterprise Data Protection Engineer for a permanent role.

As a Backup Storage Engineer, you will be responsible for engineering, administering, and supporting a new cyber resiliency backup and recovery solution. You will have a strong technical expertise in the areas of backup and recovery systems and integrating them to backup distributed databases and VMWare vCenter servers. You will gain a cross-functional understanding of the businesses and how we protect our data and assets. Additionally, you will work with other subject matter experts and resources to deploy a cyber-resiliency backup and recovery solution.

You will join our Backup Engineering team which is responsible for engineering and administering cyber resiliency backup and recovery solutions across network, distributed servers, and other endpoints. The team plays a key role working with architecture, security, applications, database, production services and other teams to architect and deliver backup and recovery solutions and are the subject matter experts to provide level 3 support.

This role contributes to our cyber resiliency program which focuses on our critical business services and how we can continue to evolve and improve our ability to recover in the event of a cyberattack. Implementation of a cyber-resiliency backup and recovery solution is part of a strong cyber resilient posture.


  • Experience with the following data protection solutions is a bonus Avamar/Data Domain, NetBackup, Cohesity & Commvault, Exagrid
  • Advanced technical knowledge of Veeam Backup Solutions
  • Experience in resolving complex issues of backup and restore.

Key Accountabilities

  • Architect and design cyber resiliency backup and recovery solution
  • Deploy a cyber-resiliency backup and recovery solution
  • Integrate backup and recovery capabilities to VMware vCenter systemsIntegrate backup and recovery capabilities to databases
  • Integrate backup and recovery solution to existing automation and reporting system
  • Assist with support and administration of existing backup tools
  • Responding to backup incidents in a production environment providing level 3/4 support
  • Maintain departmental documentation
  • Build, install, configure, and maintain Veeam Services
  • Provide advanced troubleshooting and problem resolution to all backup jobs
  • Research root cause of problems and escalate to engineering and vendor support, as necessary.
  • Develop, automate, and implement operations best practices.
  • Perform Capacity Management functions.
  • Effectively collaborate with Server / Network / Data Center / Facilities / Audit / Compliance and PMO teams
  • Manage problem and service tickets ensuring timely resolution to meet Service Level Agreements
  • Follow established Enterprise change management procedures.
  • Participate in Business Continuation / Disaster Recovery infrastructure planning, building, and testing.
  • Must have the ability to understand and relate to new products, technology, strategy and be able to follow directions.
  • Must be able to provide project management that includes planning, documentation, meetings, conference calls, and reporting.
  • Ability to conduct training sessions to share knowledge with peers and other support teams is necessary.
  • Must be available to work outside of normal business hours to fulfill production and project needs, provide 7×24 on-call support on a rotating basis.
  • Some travel may be required.

Your Qualifications

  • 5+ years of Industry experience managing complex global storage & backup operations as a Service Manager
  • Expert in administration of Veaam Backup Solutions
  • Strong Knowledge of Windows Server 2012 – 2019
  • Business acumen for making decisions based on relationships while managing Storage & Backup Technical Subject Matter Experts
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
  • Excellent time management and task prioritization skills
  • Exceptionally motivated and motivational
  • Extreme attention to detail
  • Understanding of RPO and RTO’s
  • Steady composure in the face of difficult situations
  • Providing regular, actionable feedback to Support team members
  • Maintaining open communication channels within the Support team
  • Serving as the voice of the customer and working with cross-functional internal teams to improve Storage & Backup Service capabilities
  • Excellent technical skills experience with designing and managing large-scale and complex modern data protection solutions.
  • Disaster recovery process and implementation.


  • 2+ Year’s experience with RedHat Enterprise Linux or other Linux Distributions
  • Azure or GCP Cloud Backup Experience
  • Veeam Office 365 Module Experience
  • Participated in Tabletop Disaster Recovery exercises

Salary: $85,000.00-$100,000.00 per year
